The Pence Gallery /Davis, CA
Designed by Barcelon Jang Architecture
The Pence Gallery is nestled in the heart of downtown Davis, named in honor of its generous benefactors, Joe and Hazel Pence. The gallery occupies a historic building that once housed Dr. Joseph Pence’s bustling dental practice. Dedicated community members petitioned for its use as a venue for contemporary art exhibitions, successfully securing this right in 1975.
The current facility, unveiled in February 2005, is a stunning architectural achievement designed by Barcelon Jang Architecture based in San Francisco. This modern space stands on the original site of the Pence Gallery and features three distinct gallery spaces: the Andresen Learning Center Gallery, the Dowling Community Gallery, and the spacious Coldwell Banker Main Gallery. Each area showcases a diverse range of contemporary artworks throughout the year.
